This workshop has ended.

Talk Description: Through this one hour short course on computer architecture, you will learn about one example of a computer architecture based on an Intel multi-core multi-processor system. This architecture while show the connection of the processor other processors, to system DRAM memory and peripherals such as a Graphics device, NVMe storage, Network, USB etc. The primary interconnect to high performance peripherals is via the PCI Express serial bus. Next generation processors will include in addition to PCI Express ports, Compute Express Link (CXL) ports allowing the processor to connect to SmartIO and Accelerator devices as well as memory expanders. CXL interconnect allows the support of devices that include a cache. Caches drastically improve memory access performance. Hence, not only processors experience high system memory access performance, but now smart devices which include caches will experience this high memory access performance. ** ** Speaker Bio:** **Ravi Budruk is Vice President at MindShare, a technology training company.
